Partial Sea View is a new commission by Mona Ayyash and Nadine Ghandour that reflects on their collaborative project Office Run (2018–2019)—a series of day-long art shows staged in rented office spaces across Dubai. Revisiting the spirit of that time, the work takes the form of a video installation housed within a constructed office, complete with a wide desk, office chairs, and stark white walls that echo the sterile flexibility of commercial interiors. On the desk, a printed booklet recounts the various iterations of Office Run, offering visitors an archival entry point into the artists’ spatial and conceptual interventions.
The video component of Partial Sea View meditates on the idea of "the view"—as desire, illusion, and symbol of aspiration. Narratives unfold around lost greenery, shifting neighbourhoods, and the dreamlike pursuit of blue and green hues in the horizon. Referencing a previous Office Run venue—a windowless room adorned with a generic seascape painting—the work plays with the tension between constructed landscapes and actual experience.
Rooted in the artists’ shared history of navigating Dubai’s infrastructural logics as artists living at home, the installation speaks to larger questions of access, value, and the aesthetics of comfort. It extends Ayyash and Ghandour’s ongoing exploration of how artists can create meaning and visibility in spaces not intended for art—transforming rented, bureaucratic environments into zones of intimacy, critique, and imagination.
